In September, the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater in Ivano-Frankivsk will present the musical “Hutsulka Ksenia” in Slovakia for the first time; the tour was organized to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
Performances will take place on September 11 at 6:00 p.m. in Prešov at the Divadlo Jonáša Záborského and on September 12 at 6:00 p.m. in Bratislava at the new building of the Slovak National Theater. The Divadlo Jonáša Záborského program lists the performance of “Huculka Kseňa” for September 11 at 6:00 p.m. on the main stage, while the Slovak National Theater has confirmed a guest performance by the Ivano-Frankivsk Drama Theater on September 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
“Huculka Ksenia” is one of the most famous productions in contemporary Ukrainian theater. The play has had over 200 sold-out performances and attracted thousands of viewers, according to the Slovak National Theater’s announcement of the Bratislava performance.
The production is directed by Rostyslav Derzhypilsky, People’s Artist of Ukraine and laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine. The music by Yaroslav Barnych is performed in a contemporary orchestral arrangement, conducted by Bohdan Tkachuk, Honored Artist of Ukraine.
The production combines live music, choreography, costumes inspired by Hutsul culture, set design, and a laser show. The lead roles are played by Oleksiy Hnatkovsky, Pavlo Kilnytskyi, Myroslava Polatayko, Yuriy Vykhovanets, Yana Ivasyuk, Oleg Panas, Lilia Abramyuk, Nadiya Levchenko, and Olesia Pasichnyak.
The organizers note that the tour in Slovakia aims to present Ukrainian musical classics, Hutsul traditions, and a contemporary stage interpretation of Ukrainian culture to the Ukrainian community and Slovak audiences.
In Prešov, the performance will take place at the Divadlo Jonáša Záborského at Námestie legionárov 6. In Bratislava, the performance will be hosted by the Slovak National Theater at Pribinova 17.

“Oh, Don’t Go, Hrytsiu…”
The Lesia Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theater will present a new interpretation of Mykhailo Starytsky’s play “Oh, Don’t Go, Hrytsiu, to the Evening Gathering.”
In this production, the story of love and betrayal is transposed into a modern urban setting. As noted in the announcement, here “feelings quickly become weapons, and the struggle for attention and significance often outweighs the truth.”

“Winnie-the-Pooh”
The Kyiv Municipal Puppet Theater on the left bank of the Dnipro will present a puppet version of the adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh. The performance is based on the children’s stories by English author A. A. Milne.
The story centers on the teddy bear Winnie the Pooh and his toy friends. The director of the production is Gleb Gyutin.

“The Rabbit Hole”
The Wild Theater presents a production based on the play “The Rabbit Hole” by American playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. It is a story about a difficult loss and the search for a way to cope with personal tragedy.
At the center of the plot is a married couple whose four-year-old son died in a car accident. The characters grieve the loss in different ways: some do so openly, while others keep their feelings hidden inside.

“Tiger Hunters”
Kyiv’s “Golden Gate” Theater presents a new adaptation of Ivan Bagryany’s adventure novel “Tiger Hunters.”
The story follows aviation engineer and political prisoner Hryhorii Mnohohrishnyi. In the 1930s, he escapes from a “death train” and ends up in the Far East, where he finds a family of Ukrainian settlers.

“KING LIR! VERSION”
In early June, the Frank Theatre will present a new stage adaptation of Shakespeare’s “King Lear,” translated by Yuri Andrukhovych.
This is the story of the legendary ruler of Britain, who at the end of his reign decides to relinquish power and divide the kingdom among his three daughters. But the king’s personal choice sets off a drama about power, family, responsibility, and the price of mistakes.
The theater emphasizes: “King Lear” is not only a Shakespearean classic but also a play about timeless questions that remain relevant for people and society today.

“Insects”
On June 19 and 20, the National Operetta of Ukraine will present the premiere of Igor Nebesny’s phantasmagorical musical “Insects.”

“Tiger Hunters” at the National Operetta
In addition to the “Golden Gate” Theater, the National Operetta of Ukraine will also adapt Ivan Bagryany’s novel in June. On June 28, the theater’s main stage will host the musical “Tiger Hunters” by Kirill Beskrovny, Anatoly Gumanuk, and Bogdan Reshetilov.
The production is based on Ivan Bagryany’s novel of the same name and combines the literary source material with a musical-theatrical format.

Vilnius will allocate 300 thousand euros for the reconstruction of the Taras Shevchenko National Theater in Dnipro, which will result in the theater becoming a modern inclusive art space with opportunities for exhibitions, concerts, and master classes, said the head of the regional military administration Serhiy Lysak.
“300 thousand euros for the Taras Shevchenko National Theater in Dnipro. This amount will be allocated by Vilnius for reconstruction. The money is from the Ukraine Assistance Fund,” he wrote on his Telegram channel on Friday.
Lysak said that the money will be used to restore a large machine room, which is currently not in operation. “However, it is planned to turn it into a real artistic hub. It will be used for exhibitions, concerts and master classes. A reliable and comfortable shelter will be created there,” added Lysak.
According to him, the reconstruction will involve the dismantling of everything outdated. “To make the space barrier-free, an additional entrance will be arranged. And also the stage. Major repairs, installation of ventilation.”
“I am grateful to our international partners for supporting the region.
I thank the mayor of the capital of Lithuania, Valdas Benkunskas, for this decision. And the Ministry of Culture for promoting this important initiative,” Lysak summarized.
