DTEK Energo has bought 73,000 tonnes of coal from a gas group from Columbia.
According to the company’s press release, in Yuzhny port in Odesa region W-Ace dry bulk carrier has already been disembarked, after which coal will move to DTEK thermal power plants (TPP).
As DTEK Energo Director General Dmytro Sakharuk said, Ukraine will face peak loads in October, so for the successful completion of the heating season the holding is steadily increasing coal reserves in the warehouses of its TPPs.
In total, DTEK contracted five bulk carriers with coal from Columbia. Three have already arrived in Ukraine, one more is expected next week, and the last will arrive in October.
As reported, as of September 20 DTEK already prepared 756,000 tonnes of coal in the warehouses of its TPPs.
Coal reserves in the warehouses of thermal power plants (TPP) of Ukraine’s energy generating companies as of September 23, 2019, totaled 1.072 million tonnes, which was 55.7% (383,700 tonnes) more than in early September, but 36.9% (626,000 tonnes) down year–over–year, according to the Energy and Environment Protection Ministry.
Interfax-Ukraine’s estimates show that since the start of autumn, anthracite coal reserves in thermal power plants’ warehouses have increased by 12.3%, or by 29,200 tonnes, to 265,800 tonnes (31.1%, or 63,100 tonnes up year-over–year). Gas coal reserves for the reporting period have grown by 78.4%, or 354,400 tonnes, to 806,200 tonnes (46%, 689,100 tonnes, down year-over-year.
Anthracite and gas coal reserves in the warehouses of cogeneration plants (CHPP) from the beginning of the month have increased by 2.4%, or 33,100 tonnes, to 131,400 tonnes. However, this is 54.1%, or 155,000 tonnes, down on last year’s reserves.
As reported, consumption of thermal coal by Ukraine’s TPPs and CHPPs in 2018 grew by 5.7%, or 1.409 million tonnes, compared to 2017, to 26.22 million tonnes.
Coal reserves in the warehouses of thermal power plants (TPP) of energy generating companies in Ukraine as of August 19 stood at 753,400 tonnes, which is 46% (639,200 tonnes) less than a year earlier, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry. According to Interfax-Ukraine’s calculations, the reserves of anthracite currently amount to 262,800 tonnes, which is 8.1% (19,700 tonnes) more than last year. Gas coal reserves are 490,600 tonnes, which is 56.5% (659,000 tonnes) less than last year.
At the same time, coal reserves (anthracite and gas) in the warehouses of thermal power plants today amount to 164,600 tonnes, which is 50% less than a year earlier.
As reported, coal consumption by TPPs and combined heat and power plants in the country in 2018 increased by 5.7% (by 1.409 million tonnes) compared to 2017, to 26.22 million tonnes.
DTEK Energy’s thermal power plants (TPP) increased electricity supply by 12.1% in January-May 2018 compared to the same period in 2017, to 13.5 billion kWh, the company’s press service has reported.
According to its information, in particular power supply from thermal power plants working on gas coal grew by 21.7%, to 11.5 billion kWh, while those on anthracite reduced by almost 30%, to 2 billion kWh.
The press service noted that the company increases production of electricity from Ukrainian coal through a project to transfer two blocks of Prydniprovska TPP to gas coal (completed in late 2017), as well as increased loading of its other TPPs on gas coal.
“DTEK TPPs operate in the mode required for the power system and show very good dynamics of electricity production from gas coal. It’s nice to see that the project we implemented at Prydniprovska TPP not only helps reduce the volume of coal imports to the country, but also creates prerequisites for building up own production in Ukraine,” Director for Power Generation at DTEK Energy Serhiy Kurylenko said.
DTEK Energy plans by the end of 2018 to complete the transfer of two more units of Prydniprovska TPP from anthracite to gas coal, which will allow the station to provide the required amount of electricity production without using anthracite.
