JSC Ukrzaliznytsia transported in December 2020, according to recent data, 26.65 million tonnes of cargo in all routes, which is 7.4% more than the same period in 2019.
According to the Ukrzaliznytsia’s press service on Wednesday, cargo turnover for the specified period increased by 4.4%, up to 14.404 billion tonne-kilometers.
Thus, the largest volume of cargo transportation in December 2020 was traditionally in domestic traffic and amounted to 12.08 million tonnes, which is 15.4% more than in December 2019. Domestic cargo turnover increased by 11.6%, to 4.668 billion tonne-kilometers.
Export in December 2020 amounted to 9.8 million tonnes, import to 3.78 million tonnes, and transit to 1 million tonnes.
As reported, Ukrzaliznytsia increased the volume of domestic cargo transportation by 22% in November.
Ukrzaliznytsia during the New Year holidays (from December 31, 2020 to January 3, 2021) carried 196,100 passengers in long-distance traffic, the company’s press service has reported.
According to the data provided, 33,100 passengers were transported in high-speed Intercity+ trains for the specified period.
The greatest demand was for trains in the western direction, in which 104,000 passengers were transported, including 9,300 passengers on Intercity+ trains.
“Ukrzaliznytsia provides all anti-epidemic measures for the safety of passengers while traveling and urges passengers to be sure to observe the mask regime while traveling and use an antiseptic,” the company added.
JSC Ukrzaliznytsia in January-November 2020 updated 11,903 freight cars, most of all high-sided cars were repaired – 5,953 units.
According to the press service of the company, 773 platforms, 479 covered wagons, 563 tanks, 1,066 grain carriers, 411 cement carriers, 468 hopper dispensers were also repaired during this period.
As reported, Ukrzaliznytsia in 2021 plans to allocate 3 times more funds compared to 2020 for renovation, overhaul, modernization of rolling stock and infrastructure construction.
In order to minimize corruption risks, Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing a system of operational control over the provision of customers’ requests for cargo transportation.
As the company reported on its website on Wednesday, the system is aimed, in particular, at eliminating the possibility of non-receipt or delay in the delivery of freight wagons, as well as eradicating corruption in the freight wagons distribution.
“At the first stage of the system implementation, we already carry out daily operational monitoring of applications for the delivery of freight wagons, consider all problem cases and correct the situation in order to fully meet the needs of customers and timely delivery of freight wagons. After all, each well-developed application is, in the end, the company’s income and its further development,” the Ukrzaliznytsia’s press service said.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, operational control, monitoring the situation and quick response will significantly improve the quality of rail cargo transportation and strengthen cooperation with market participants.
JSC Ukrzaliznytsia in 2021 plans to allocate almost three times more funds for renovation, overhaul, modernization of rolling stock and construction of infrastructure compared to 2020.
According to the press service of the company, the capital investment of the enterprise in 2021 should amount to UAH 27.2 billion (UAH 9.7 billion in 2020). At the same time, 55% of this amount is Ukrzaliznytsia’s own funds, 31% are investors’ funds, 14% is planned to be received from the state budget.
Ukrzaliznytsia counts on state support in implementing these plans. Since investments in the renewal of infrastructure must be comprehensive and systemic, so that in the future they return to the state budget in the form of profit, it added.
As reported, Ukrzaliznytsia intends to increase capital investments to UAH 41 billion in 2023.
In 2019, Ukrzaliznytsia increased its net profit by 14.7 times, to UAH 2.988 billion (UAH 203.85 million in 2018). EBITDA increased by 6% compared to the previous year, to UAH 17.3 billion.
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to receive UAH 17.6 billion in revenue from freight traffic in October-December 2020, which is 7.98% more than in the previous quarter.
This is a record quarterly indicator of financial receipts this year from the main business of the company, Ukrzaliznytsia said.
So, in the first quarter of this year, Ukrzaliznytsia’s income from freight traffic amounted to UAH 16.6 billion, in the second – UAH 14.6 billion, and in the third – UAH 16.3 billion.
“Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to achieve a record level of income in the fourth quarter due to increased efficiency of the company’s operating activities, liquidation of the locomotive shortage, improved dispatching and fruitful cooperation with all participants in the transportation process,” the message says.
The company also clarified that in September 2020, the company’s income from domestic freight rail transportation increased by 6% compared to the same period in 2019 – up to UAH 2.1 billion, and in October – by 3.2% against October 2019 and amounted to UAH 2.2 billion.
