Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio had a 30-minute phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, discussing Russian aggression against Ukraine and the Japanese prime minister’s possible visit to Kiev.
According to NHK television, Kishida assured that he would play an active role during Japan’s G7 presidency.
“I strongly condemned Russia’s continued aggression and said that Japan will do everything possible to help, including surviving the winter to protect the lives of Ukrainians,” he said.
For his part, President Zelenskyy expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s position and spoke about the current situation in the country. The interlocutors also discussed the possible visit of Kishida Fumio to Ukraine, who received an invitation to visit Kiev.
“Nothing has been decided yet, but I will consider it under different circumstances,” he added.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a conversation with the new Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
“I congratulated Giorgia Meloni on her appointment as Prime Minister of Italy. I’m hopeful for further fruitful cooperation. We discussed Ukraine’s integration into EU and NATO. I told about the current situation in our country and invited her to visit Ukraine,” Zelensky said on Twitter.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan this week, Chinese media reported on Monday, citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Xi will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Samarkand and will visit Kazakhstan from September 14 to September 16, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
As previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand.
The SCO summit will be held in Samarkand on September 15-16.
Beijing’s countermeasures against the visit of Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan will be powerful, they will be felt both in the US and on the island itself, CGTN TV channel reported on Wednesday.

German Interior Minister Nancy Feser and Social Affairs Minister Hubertus Heil arrived in Ukraine on a visit, Spiegel reported on Monday.

In addition to the visit to Irpen, meetings are also planned with Ukrainian politicians, including with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky, the head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Serhiy Kruk, First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko, Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovich and Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko.
A UNESCO technical delegation will visit Kyiv this week, said Assistant Director General of UNESCO for Priority Africa and External Relations Firmin Eduard Matoko.
“We are planning to send a technical mission to Kyiv with the government of Ukraine this week to further assess the needs and expectations of the Ukrainian authorities and determine the forms of our participation. According to him, UNESCO is also mobilizing support to ensure continuity of learning for all citizens of Ukraine, supporting online learning in and outside Ukraine, as well as the integration of refugees – students and teachers – into host countries.
He added that since the beginning of the war, UNESCO has been able to mobilize about $5 million for agreements with donor countries in these areas.
