PJSC “Euroshpon-Smyga” (Smyga, Rivne Oblast), a leading Ukrainian manufacturer of sawn veneer, saw its net profit decline by 29.2% in January–June 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, down to 109.4 million UAH.
According to the company’s financial statements published on its website, its net revenue for this period increased by 18.4% to 630.3 million UAH.
The company reported UAH 168.9 million in gross profit (down 3.6%) amid a 31.8% decline in operating profit to UAH 132.2 million.
Retained earnings as of the end of the reporting period stood at UAH 1.23 billion.
According to the report, in the second quarter of this year, “Euroshpon-Smiga’s” net profit fell by 41.7% compared to April–June 2025—to 54.2 million UAH—while net sales revenue rose by nearly 15%—to 311.7 million UAH.
As of early July of this year, the company employed 430 people.
According to its own information, the trade and industrial company “Euroshpon-Smiga” is the leading manufacturer of planed veneer in Ukraine. It produces lumber, planed veneer, and finger-jointed veneer from various wood species. Its products comply with international standards and are FSC-certified.
Last year, the company exported 81.6% of its total sales, amounting to 901.1 million UAH; importing countries included Poland, Lithuania, Spain, Slovakia, Belgium, and the United States.
In 2025, its net profit increased by 14.7%—to 258.8 million UAH—compared to 2024, as net revenue rose by 15.6%—to 1 billion 105 million UAH. This year, shareholders approved dividend payments twice—totaling 50 million UAH.
Sustainable development of the wood processing industry—the achievement of this operational objective of the Government Action Program—is now the responsibility of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, whereas until recently, forestry was overseen by the Ministry of Economy and Environment.
According to the Program, which the Cabinet of Ministers submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is tasked with approving the Strategy for the Development of Ukraine’s Wood Processing and Furniture Industries for the period up to 2030 and adopting an operational plan of measures for its implementation for 2026–2028 (2026).
Other tasks in this area include introducing, in 2027, uniform rules for the functioning of the timber market for all permanent forest users and forest owners; completing the corporatization of the state-owned enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”; and imposing a permanent moratorium on the sale of state-owned shares.
The forestry sector and the State Forest Resources Agency (State Forest Agency) were under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy until 2019, after which they were transferred to the jurisdiction of the merged Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection (Ministry of Energy and Environment), and in 2020, following its split, they were transferred to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, where they remained until the summer of 2025, when yet another merged ministry was created—the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture.
People’s Deputy Olga Vasilevska-Smaglyuk criticized the possible decision to return the forestry sector to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. “The key risk is a change in the very philosophy of forest management. Forests cannot be viewed merely as an economic resource that needs to be used more efficiently. After all, they are first and foremost natural capital, an ecosystem, and a component of the country’s environmental security,” she explained.
In her view, such a transfer could also slow down the corporatization of the state-owned enterprise “Forests of Ukraine,” the digitization of timber accounting, and the transition to European forest management standards.
CORPORATIZATION, FOREST, MINISTRY OF AGRARIAN POLICY, TIMBER, WOOD PROCESSING
The State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine has launched a new pilot project – an interactive map with wood processing facilities, Head of the agency Andriy Zablotsky has said.
“We want to inform our citizens as much as possible about the legal places for processing wood, as well as identify sawmills that work illegally or use illegally logged wood,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
The head of the State Forest Resources Agency said that the facility were put on the public map according to their geographical coordinate system, information from the electronic wood accounting system and the data provided by Zakarpattia, Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Donetsk and Zhytomyr regional administrations.
“The project is a pilot one. Work is underway to fill the geoportal with information. Soon, a feedback form will be created through which users can provide clarification, information about unapplied objects or other informative materials related to wood processing,” Zablotsky said.
In addition, the State Forest Resources Agency is implementing a project named “Forest in a Smartphone”, which allows studying with the general list of logging tickets or checking the legality of logging on the agency’s website on an online map using a computer or a smartphone.
The website also has a service for checking the legality and origin of wood, auction and tender portals. There is an option to check the selling prices for wood, an electronic list of certificates of origin for timber and lumber. In addition, on the website of the State Forest Resources Agency one can follow the monitoring of domestic consumption of wood.
According to Zablotsky, the State Forest Agency Resources plans to transfer the majority of registers and services to a smartphone.
