Ukraine reduced export of steel semi-finished products by 67%

Ukraine in January-August this year reduced the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel in kind by 66.6% compared to the same period last year – up to 1 million 589.419 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), in monetary terms, the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel over this period decreased by 63.5% – to $1 billion 8.882 million.
The main exports were to Bulgaria (21.91% of supplies in monetary terms), Italy (13.96%) and Turkey (12.22%).
In addition, Ukraine imported 5,532 thousand tons of such products in January-August, which is 64% less than in January-August 2021. In monetary terms, imports decreased by 63.4% – to $ 3.576 million. Imports were carried out from the Russian Federation (98.49% of deliveries), Romania (1.23%) and China (0.25%).
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 reduced the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel in physical terms by 9.5% compared to 2020, to 6 million 776.44 thousand tons. In monetary terms, the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel increased by 48.8% over the year to $4 billion 93.02 million. The main exports were to Italy (30.90% of supplies in monetary terms), Turkey (12.77%) and the Republic (8.02%).
In addition, Ukraine imported 38.97 thousand tons of such products in 2021, which is 2.6 times more than in 2020. In monetary terms, imports increased by 3.9 times – up to $25.95 million. Imports were carried out from the Russian Federation (97.73% of deliveries), Turkey (1.15%) and Uzbekistan (1.08%).

Ukraine reduced imports of copper by 62%, exports – by 55%

In January-August this year, Ukrainian enterprises reduced imports of copper and copper products in value terms by 61.7% compared to the same period last year, to $41.745 million.
According to customs statistics released by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, exports of copper and copper products over the specified period decreased by 55.3% to $64.143 million.
In August, copper and copper products were imported in the amount of $7.337 million, exported – in the amount of $4.442 million.
In addition, Ukraine in January-August 2022 reduced imports of nickel and products from it by 42% compared to January-August 2021 – to $44.635 million (in August – $7.438 million), aluminum and products from it – by 29.7 %, to $207.180 million ($35.390 million). At the same time, it reduced the import of lead and products from it by 63.7% – to $2.249 million ($151 thousand). The import of tin and products from it fell by 5% – to $2.468 million ($247 thousand), and the import of zinc and zinc products – by 56.2%, up to $26.135 million ($2.460 million).
Export of aluminum and products from it for eight months of 2022 decreased by 36.4% compared to January-August 2021 – to $66.455 million (in August – $8.798 million), lead and products from it by 64.3% – to $8.686 million ($0.199 million), nickel and products – by 59.3%, to $1.339 million ($0.073 million).
Export of zinc for the reporting period amounted to $1.302 million (no export was carried out in August), while in January-August 2021 it was $70 thousand. Export of tin and products in January-August 2022 amounted to $396 thousand (in August – $5 thousand). ) against $17 thousand for January-August-2021.
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 increased copper imports in value terms by 59% compared to 2020 – up to $183.161 million, exports of copper and copper products over the specified period increased by 2.4 times compared to 2020 – up to $206.390 million.
In 2021, Ukraine also increased the import of nickel and products from it by 45.8% compared to 2020 – up to $119.154 million, aluminum and products from it – by 30.2%, to $511.190 million. At the same time, it reduced the import of lead and products of it by 7.8% – up to $8.512 million, increased imports of tin and products from it by 75.2%, up to $4.977 million, and also increased zinc and zinc products – by 62.9%, up to $93.635 million.
Exports of aluminum and products from it in 2021 increased by 53.9% – to $169.094 million, lead and products from it by 52.8% – to $38.229 million, nickel and products – by 55%, to $4.856 million.
Zinc exports last year amounted to $550 thousand, while in 2020 it was $69 thousand (an increase of eight times). Export of tin and products in 2021 amounted to $346,000 against $117,000 in 2020.

Ukraine reduced iron exports by 60%, 40% of supplies went to USA

In January-August of this year, Ukraine reduced the export of marginal iron in physical terms by 59.6% compared to the same period last year – to 877,631 thousand tons.
According to statistics published by the State Customs Service (SSC), during the specified period, the export of pig iron in money decreased by 57.8% – to $475,533 million.
At the same time, exports were made mainly to the USA (40.42% of deliveries in monetary terms), Poland (33.23%) and Turkey (9.3%).
In January-August 2022, Ukraine imported 15 tons of pig iron from Germany for $25 thousand, while in 8 months of 2021 it imported 149 tons of pig iron for $163 thousand from Germany (64.42%), the Russian Federation (28.22%) and Slovakia (7.36%).
As reported, in 2021, Ukraine increased the export of pig iron in physical terms by 4.2% compared to 2020 – to 3 million 235,772 thousand tons, the export of pig iron in monetary terms increased by 78.1% – to $1 billion 642,596 million At the same time exports were made mainly to the USA (53.61% of deliveries in monetary terms), Italy (22.08%) and Turkey (9.74%).
In 2021, Ukraine imported 185 tons of pig iron worth $226,000 from Germany (74.34%), the Russian Federation (20.35%) and Slovakia (5.31%), while in 2020 it imported 593 tons worth $417,000.

Ukraine reduced foreign exchange earnings from the export of ferrous metals by 58%

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January-August this year reduced revenues from the export of ferrous metals by 58% compared to the same period last year – to $3 billion 724.478 million from $8 billion 917.510 million.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), ferrous metals accounted for 12.86% of total merchandise export earnings over this period compared to 21.34% in January-August 2021.
In August, proceeds from the export of ferrous metals amounted to $234.658 million.
At the same time, in January-August of this year, Ukraine reduced imports of similar products by 37.8%, to $558.954 million. In August, it was imported for $85.439 million.
In addition, during the specified period, Ukraine reduced the export of metal products by 8.9% – to $703.130 million. In August, they were delivered for $70.961 million.
Imports of metal products in January-August decreased by 40.3% – to $413.181 million (in August – $61.941 million).
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 increased foreign exchange earnings from exports of ferrous metals by 81.4% compared to 2020, to $13 billion 951.117 million. Ferrous metals accounted for 20.49% of total revenues from exports of goods over this period against 15 .63% for 2020.
At the same time, Ukraine increased imports of similar products by 48.8% in 2021, to $1 billion 547.477 million.
In addition, Ukraine in 2021 increased the export of metal products by 43% – up to $1 billion 293.199 million.
Imports of metal products over the past year increased by 28% – up to $1 billion 125.908 million.

Ukraine will consider the possibility of opening a quota for the export of 100 thousand tons of coal to Poland

Ukraine will consider the possibility of opening a quota for the export of 100,000 tons of coal to Poland in September, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said.
“On behalf of the President of Ukraine, at the request of the Polish side, Ukraine is ready to consider the possibility of opening quotas for coal exports to Poland. We are talking about 100,000 tons in September, which are now critically needed by our Polish partners,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Shmyhal specified that coal reserves in the warehouses of Ukrainian power plants amount to almost 2 million tons, which is 2.5 times more than a year ago. “Therefore, we are ready to lend a shoulder of support to our Polish friends,” he stressed.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine added that during the visit of his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki to Kyiv, the parties also discussed the restoration and commissioning of the Khmelnytsky NPP-Rzeszow power line.
“We planned to finish before December 14, but thanks to the acceleration of work, we can complete a week earlier. This will allow us to export an additional 1,000 MW to Poland. For our part, we ask Poland to assist in expanding export quotas within the framework of ENTSO-E,” Shmyhal said.
According to him, Ukraine expects that by the end of 2022 the amount of available transmission capacity in the direction of Slovakia, Romania and Hungary will increase from 300 MW by another 200-300 MW, and in the direction of Poland – over 1000 MW.
As reported, since mid-June 2022, Ukraine has set zero quotas for the export of all types of coal, except for coking coal, and on September 7, it completely banned the export of Ukrainian coal.
According to the State Customs Service, Ukraine’s coal exports for seven months of 2022 amounted to 450.6 thousand tons for $145.917 million, incl. to Slovakia – by $93.349 million, Poland – by $34.084 million, Hungary – by $15.919 million, other countries – by $2.565 million.

Ukraine exported more than 5 million tons of grain crops – Ministry of Agrarian Policy

Since the beginning of the 2022/2023 marketing year (MY, July-June), Ukraine has exported 5.29 million tons of grain crops, including 3.17 million tons of corn (60% of total supplies), 1.65 million tons of wheat (31%) and 447 thousand tons of barley (8%).
As reported on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Friday, since the beginning of the current marketing year, the rate of grain exports has been 1.94 times lower than the same period last year (10.29 million tons were exported from July 1 to September 9, 2021).
At the same time, according to the agency, from August 31 to September 9, 1.33 million tons of grain crops were delivered to foreign markets (147.8 thousand tons daily), while for the previous period, August 26-31 – 550 thousand tons grain crops (110 thousand tons daily), on August 19-26 – 430 thousand tons of grain crops (61.4 thousand tons daily), and on August 11-19 – 770 thousand tons (96.2 thousand tons daily ). Thus, the average daily export rates over the past nine days increased by a third compared to the previous period and reached the maximum value since the beginning of the MY.
In general, from the beginning of 2022/2023 MY and until September 9, 2022, Ukraine exported 1.65 million tons of wheat (3.6 times less compared to the same date in 2021/2022 MY), 447 thousand tons of barley (6.7 times less), 0.8 thousand tons of rye (18 times less) and 15.6 thousand tons of flour (1.7 times less). However, the pace of corn exports exceeded last year’s volumes – 3.17 million tons were exported, which is 2.37 times higher than in 2021/2022 MY.
In total, for the period August 31-September 9, 680 thousand tons of corn, 510 thousand tons of wheat, 137 thousand tons of barley, 0.3 thousand tons of rye and 3.7 thousand tons of flour were delivered to foreign markets.
As reported, in MY 2021/2022, Ukraine exported 48.51 million tons of grains and legumes, which is 8.4% higher than in the previous marketing year, despite the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation and difficulties with the export of agricultural products due to the blockade of Ukrainian seaports. 18.74 million tons of wheat were delivered to foreign markets (12.6% more than in 2020/2021MY), 23.54 million tons of corn (+1.9%), 5.75 million tons of barley (+35.9%) , 70.9 thousand tons of flour (-44.1%).
In 2020/2021 MY, the country exported 44.72 million tons of grain and leguminous crops: 16.64 million tons of wheat, 23.08 million tons of corn, 4.23 million tons of barley, 126.9 thousand tons of flour and 18.4 thousand . tons of rye.
In 2019/2020 MY, Ukraine exported 56.72 million tons of grain and leguminous crops.
