EU-Ukraine security agreement expected to be signed on June 26

The European Union and Ukraine are expected to sign a security agreement on June 26, Deutsche Welle reports, citing a senior EU official.

At a briefing in Brussels on Friday, the official said that the parties have already agreed on the text of the agreement, which took several months. According to the official, the document is expected to be signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 26. The agreement covers not only military assistance to Kyiv, but also financial support, European integration, and other areas of cooperation.

It is also expected that on June 24, the EU foreign ministers will officially approve the 14th package of sanctions against Russia for its aggression against Ukraine at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.

On Monday, June 24, in the southern, eastern, southern and northern regions of Ukraine there will be short-term rain and thunderstorms in some places; in the rest of the country there will be no precipitation.

Cabinet approves Energoatom’s supervisory board

At a meeting last Friday, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a five-member supervisory board of Energoatom, the Ministry of Economy reported.
In particular, Timothy John Stone, who has experience as an independent director of Horizon Nuclear Power, a non-executive director of the European Investment Bank, and heads the Nuclear Industry Association of Great Britain (NIA), became an independent member of the board.
The Board also includes Michael E. Kirst, who has held senior positions at Westinghouse Electric Company throughout his career. Prior to joining Westinghouse in 1996, Mr. Kirst was Director of the Economic Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels. He is the founder and managing director of EuroAtlantic Partners.
In addition, Jarek Neverovic, former Minister of Energy of Lithuania and Chief Advisor to the President of Lithuania on Environment and Infrastructure, became an independent member of the NNEGC. He also held various positions in the government of his country related to the operation of the electricity transmission system, management of investment funds and cooperation with national and multinational corporations.
The representatives of the state in the Supervisory Board of Energoatom are Tymofiy Mylovanov, former Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine, now President of the Kyiv School of Economics, and Vitaliy Petruk, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, who headed the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management in 2015-19.
“We managed to attract world-class professionals as independent candidates. We expect that this Supervisory Board will strengthen the company’s energy capabilities and help attract much-needed investments in the nuclear industry,” said First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko.
As reported, the decision to establish Energoatom, a 100% state-owned company, was made by the Cabinet of Ministers on December 29, 2023.
In January 2024, the state registration of the company and its charter took place, and in February the company received a certificate of registration of the issue of shares for more than UAH 306 billion.
In early March, NNEGC Chairman Petro Kotin announced that more than 40 applications had been submitted for the competition to select independent members of the Supervisory Board of NNEGC Energoatom.

Ukraine beat Slovakia at European Football Championship

The Ukrainian national team won 2-1 against Slovakia in the second match of the 2024 European Football Championship.
The Ukrainian team conceded in the first half on 17 minutes from Ivan Shrantz, but in the second half – on 54 minutes Mykola Shaparenko equalized the score after a shot by Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Roman Yaremchuk scored the winning goal on the 80th with a pass from Shaparenko.
As reported, Ukraine lost the first match to Romania with the score 0:3.
In the group stage of Euro 2024 Ukraine will play on June 26 with the national team of Belgium.

43.5% of Ukrainian citizens have not determined their attitude to Turkmenistan – survey

Active Group and Experts Club conducted a joint study on the attitudes of Ukrainians toward the countries of East Asia and the Middle East. The study was presented at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency in June 2024. The research was presented by Maksym Urakin and Oleksandr Poznyi. The results of the study are as follows:

On October 10, 1992, the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Ukraine and Turkmenistan was signed in Ashgabat. This day marked the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In 1995, the embassies of Ukraine and Turkmenistan were opened in Kyiv and Ashgabat.

Artem Sytnik appointed deputy director of Defense Procurement Agency of Defense Ministry

Artem Sytnik has been appointed deputy director of the “Defense Procurement Agency” (DPA) of the Ministry of Defense on security issues.
“From now on, he will be responsible for the internal security of the agency, verification of contractors and control over the proper execution of government contracts, building effective cooperation with law enforcement agencies,” AOZ said on its Facebook page.
Sytnyk headed the National Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2015-2022. Subsequently, he worked as Deputy Director of the National Anti-Corruption Agency, where he was responsible for interaction with law enforcement agencies, financial control, special inspections, prevention of conflicts of interest.
“We are very much looking forward to his work on building processes that will prevent any manifestations of corruption and ensure efficient procurement and reliable supplies of weapons to the Armed Forces,” Director of the Defense Procurement Agency Marina Bezrukova said on Facebook on Friday.
Sytnik, in turn, expressed hope that his experience “will help strengthen the Agency and minimize possible risks in its work.”
