RETAIL TRADE IN UKRAINE GROWS BY 6% IN JAN-JULY

Ukraine’s retail trade in January-July 2018 grew by 6% in comparable prices from January-July 2017, the State Statistics Service reported on Monday.
Retail trade in July 2018 alone increased by 3.9% from June 2018 and by 6.6% from July 2017. The largest increase in retail trade in the seven months of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 was registered in Luhansk region (23.4%), Zakarpattia (10.9%), Poltava region (10.5%) and Donetsk region (10.3%).
The report does not include data from the temporarily occupied areas in Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and partly Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
As reported, Ukrainian retailers in 2017 saw an 8.8% increase in turnover, estimated at UAH 816.554 billion.

UKRPOSHTA POSTAL OPERATOR STARTS COOPERATION WITH ONLINE RETAILERS

Kyiv-based PJSC Ukrposhta postal operator has started cooperation with the Rozetka online supermarket and F.ua online store, the company’s website said. “Ukrposhta has begun cooperation with the F.ua online store, which is one of the top ten sellers of consumer electronics in Ukraine,” the company said in an official statement.
Over the first days of work in the test mode, Ukrposhta delivered more than 1,000 parcels, the number of orders continues to grow.
Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smelyansky in turn announced the national postal operator’s cooperation with Rozetka.
“Ukrposhta has finally coupled within Rozetka,” he wrote on Facebook. “Millions of potential buyers have been waiting for this. Now they can order delivery [of a limited number of commodities so far] by Ukrposhta. For us, this is a very important signal from the e-commerce market,” he wrote.
According to Smelyansky, in addition to Rozetka and F.ua, Ukrposhta also works with LeBoutique, Parfums, Yakaboo, LaModa, Top Shop, Makeup and some other well-known e-shops.

BASF PLANS TO INCREASE ITS SHARE IN UKRAINIAN MARKET OF PLANT PROTECTION AGENTS

BASF, the world’s leading producer of plant protection agents, plans to increase its share of the Ukrainian market of plant protection agents in 2018 by 1.5-2 percentage points with the acquisition of business shares and assets of the German chemical company Bayer, to 17-17.5%. “We are planning to increase the share of the Ukrainian market of plant protection products by 1.5-2%. At present the company has a 15.5% stake in Ukraine,” Head of the BASF Agribusiness Department in Ukraine, Moldova and the Caucasus Tiberiu Dima said.
He specified that BASF intends to keep the share of the Ukrainian seed market next year at the level of 8-9%. “We also intend in the first ten days of October to officially open a research seed center for working with grains in the village of Tsentralne in Kyiv region, which was purchased from Bayer,” the expert noted.
It is part of a global network of research centers. Already in the near future the center will close the full cycle of seed production: from the creation of new varieties of wheat to the presentation of developments in the demonstration center.

KFC OPENS THE 15TH RESTAURANT IN UKRAINE IN PREMISES EARLIER OCCUPIED BY MCDONALD’S

LLC Tasty Food, a partner of Yum! Brands (KFC), will open the 15th KFC restaurant in Ukraine on August 23, the company’s press service has reported. This restaurant will be the fifth for LLC Tasty Food, which has already opened three restaurants of the chain in Dnipro and one in Kyiv. The new restaurant will open in the premises at 26 Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard in Kyiv’s Pechersk area, which were earlier occupied by a McDonald’s restaurant. The latter closed in April due to the expiration of the rental period and a new rental rate deemed by the company as unprofitable.
The new KFC restaurant is designed for 150 seats, its area is 398 square meters, the company’s press service said. “The restaurant’s menu includes all the main KFC dishes from snacks and sandwiches to buckets and desserts. The restaurant will be open from 06.00 to 23:45 local time,” it said.
Four self-service kiosks will be installed in the restaurant to speed up the process of servicing due to the zone for receiving orders and a separate zone for order picking in keeping with the concept of fusion. “LLC Tasty Food is planning to open several more KFC restaurants within two years. The company is now actively recruiting employees who will be trained according to international food quality and food service standards adopted by KFC,” the company said.
KFC is an international brand of fast food restaurants, represented in more than 130 countries. The network includes more than 21,000 restaurants. The company employs over 300,000 employees. The first restaurant of the KFC chain in Ukraine opened in Kyiv late in 2012. As of August 2018, the chain in Ukraine numbered 14 restaurants.
