UKRAINE RAISES OIL IMPORTS BY 22% IN Q1

Ukraine in January-March 2020 increased import of oil (according to foreign economic activity code 2709) by 22.7% (by 33,400 tonnes) compared to the same period in 2019, to 180,673 tonnes.
According to the State Customs Service, in the first quarter, $99.746 million worth of raw materials were imported, which is 41.3% more than in January-March 2019 ($70.581 million).
So, oil supplies from Azerbaijan totaled $37.884 million (a share of 37.98%), Libya some $31.745 million (31.83%), the United States some $30.118 million (30.19%).
Ukraine did not export crude oil in January-March 2020 and in 2019.

UKRAINE CUTS ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION IN JAN-MARCH

Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January-March 2020, taking into account in-process losses in power grids, fell by 5.6% (by 2.366 billion kWh) compared to January-March 2019, to 39.644 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy and Environment Protection has told Interfax-Ukraine.
Excluding in-process losses, electricity consumption over the period decreased 3.6% (by 1.179 billion kWh), to 31.965 billion kWh.
The country’s industry, excluding in-process losses, reduced electricity consumption by 5.8%, to 12.429 billion kWh. In particular, metallurgical industry consumed 6.746 billion kWh (9.5% less compared to January-March 2019), fuel industry some 849.9 million kWh (6.6% less), machine building industry some 959.9 million kWh (14.2% less), chemical and petrochemical some 2.029 billion kWh (24.2% more), food and processing some 1.088 billion kWh (1.2% less), construction materials some 483.4 million kWh (2.1% less), and others some 1.283 billion kWh (0.8% down).
In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 854.8 million kWh (4.2% less), transport some 1.708 billion kWh (6.8% less), and developers some 282.5 million kWh (7.6% down).
In January-March 2020, the country’s population consumed 10.407 billion kWh (0.9% up), households some 4.138 billion kWh (6.7% down), and other non-industrial consumers some 2.145 billion kWh (1.3% down).
The share of industry in total electricity consumption in January-March 2020 fell from 39.8% to 38.9%, and the share of the population grew to 32.6% from 31.1%.
In March 2020, electricity consumption, taking into account in-process losses, decreased by 7% (by 948.2 million kWh) compared to the same month of 2019, to 12.611 billion kWh, excluding in-process losses it fell by 3.9% (417.8 million kWh), to 10.374 billion kWh.

VOLUME OF REINSURANCE BY UKRAINIAN INSURERS IN AUSTRIA IN 2019 GREW 2.5-FOLD

The volume of reinsurance by Ukrainian insurers in Austria in 2019 grew 2.5-fold, to UAH 639 million, being 19.4% of the total reinsurance volume abroad (8.5% in 2018), according to a posting on the website of the National Commission for Financial Service Markets Regulation of Ukraine.
The share of reinsurance in Germany increased from 18.6% in 2018 to 22.3% in 2019 (to UAH 535 million), the U.K. it decreased from 23.7% to 17.3%, to UAH 569.9 million, Poland it decreased from 12.4% to 10% (UAH 331.3 million), in Switzerland decreased from 10.6% to 7% (UAH 229.8 million), in France increased to 6% from 5% (UAH 196.8 million), in the United States decreased from 4.2% to 3.6% (UAH 119.6 million).
According to the regulator, outbound reinsurance operations for the reporting period decreased 6.8%, to UAH 16.713 billion. In addition, reinsurance with nonresident reinsurers increased 10%, to UAH 3.298 billion.
Payments compensated by resident reinsurers amounted to UAH 297.8 million, which is 30.9% less than in 2018, for nonresident reinsurers it was UAH 2.21 billion, or 9% more than in 2018.
In relation to gross insurance premiums, the share of outbound reinsurance as at December 31, 2019 was 31.5%, which is 4.8 percentage points less than on the same date a year earlier.

COMPANIES FROM GERMANY, POLAND, NETHERLANDS, AUSTRIA AND TURKEY WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN WASTE RECYCLING PLANT CONSTRUCTION IN UKRAINE

Four companies filed documents to participate in the tender for the construction of a waste recycling complex in Lviv, Mayor of the city Andriy Sadovy has written on his Facebook page. “Lviv-based municipal enterprise Zelene Misto Green City received technical proposals from four participants (due to pandemic the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approved that this may be online),” the mayor of Lviv said.
According to him, the documents were submitted by the following companies: Eggersmann Anlagenbau GmbH (Germany), Control Process S.A. (Poland), consortium of two companies WTT (Netherlands) and Axis (Lithuania), consortium of two companies MUT (Austria) and Dogusan (Turkey).
“Each of these companies has implemented at least four similar projects. Such experience is a guarantee of quality for us. The plant must be environmentally safe, this is the main criterion when choosing a contractor,” Sadovy said.
According to the mayor of Lviv, preparatory work is currently underway on the site allocated for the construction of the plant.
According to the City Council, the design capacity of the plant should be 240,000 tonnes of waste per year when working on a double-shift basis.
