The number of victims of earthquakes that occurred in early February in the south-east of Turkey has reached nearly 46 thousand people, the country’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said.
“So far, 45,968,000 people have died as a result of earthquakes, including 4,267 Syrians,” Anadolu Agency quoted him as saying.
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Turkey on the night of February 6, followed by a series of echo pushes, one of which had a magnitude of 7.6. The earthquake also caused serious damage and casualties in neighboring Syria.
The Main Special Control Center reports that the earthquake was registered on February 27 at 03:15:39 Kiev time, 19 km to the west of Mukachevo at a depth of 2 km.

The head of state made an entry in the book of sorrow and laid flowers on the territory of the embassy, the presidential press service reports.
“Please accept sincere condolences from me personally and on behalf of the people of Ukraine. The terrible tragedy that claimed so many lives in the blink of an eye, resonated with deep pain in our hearts. We share the pain of the Turkish people and help in this difficult time. Eternal memory to the dead. A speedy recovery to the victims,” Zelensky said.
The president also spoke with Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine Yagmur Ahmet Guldere.
The number of victims of a powerful earthquake in Turkey has reached 8,547, the number of victims exceeded 49,000, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday.

At the same time, the EFE news agency reported 2,662 victims in Syria. Thus, the total number of victims of the earthquake in the two countries exceeded 11.2 thousand.
