The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in May improved the forecast for the export of Ukrainian sunflowerseed oil in 2021/2022 (September-August) by 18.9% compared to 2020/21, to 6.4 million tonnes, with an increase in its production by 17.7%, to 6.99 million tonnes. According to the monthly report of the department, in 2021/2022, an increase in sunflowerseed production in Ukraine is expected by 18.4% compared to 2020/2021, to 16.7 million tonnes, sunflowerseed meal exports are expected to grow by 16.4%, to 5.3 million tonnes.
The USDA said that the growth in exports of sunflower oil and meal compared to the low level of the last marketing season will be due to the recovery of oil extraction volumes in Ukraine.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture also said that Ukraine rapeseed production is forecast to recover from last season’s low level, rising 200,000 tonnes to 3.0 million. Exports are projected to rise 190,000 tonnes to 2.6 million. Exports of rapeseed meal at 175,000 tonnes and oil at 165,000 tonnes are forecast to rise.
Ukraine in January-April of this year increased exports of ferroalloys in kind by 24.1% compared to the same period last year, to 205,506 tonnes.
According to customs statistics released by the State Customs Service, in monetary terms, exports of ferroalloys decreased 13.1%, to $246.614 million.
The main export of ferroalloys was to Turkey (17.42% of supplies in monetary terms), Poland (13.08%) and Italy (12.69%).
In addition, in January-April 2021, Ukraine imported 18,547 tonnes of these products, which is 28% more compared to January-April 2020. In monetary terms, imports grew by 17.2%, to $43.224 million.
Imports were mainly from Brazil (17.9%), Kazakhstan (16.92%), and the Czech Republic (11.69%).
PrivatBank (Kyiv) prior to its nationalization organized the business of Stakhanov and Zaporizhia ferroalloys plants. Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant is under control of the EastOne Group, established in autumn 2007 as a result of the restructuring of the Interpipe group, as well as the Privat Group.
Ukrainian enterprises in January-April this year increased the export of ferrous scrap 7.5 times compared to the same period last year, to 86,979 tonnes, including 37,874 tonnes of scrap in April.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service on Tuesday, in monetary terms, the export of scrap metal grew 10 times, to $30.712 million.
At the same time, in January-April of this year, the country increased the import of scrap metal in kind by 36.1%, to 7,755 tonnes. In monetary terms, the import of scrap increased 2.1 times, to $13.009 million.
The import of scrap metal in January-April of this year was carried out mainly from Turkey (61.77% of deliveries in monetary terms), the Russian Federation (29.56%) and the United States (3.13%); export – to Turkey (94.65%), Lithuania (1.32%) and Germany (1.25%).
Farmak pharmaceutical company (Kyiv) in 2020 increased the share of exports to 29.6% in total sales.
According to the company’s press release, export deliveries increased by 40% by the end of the year.
Farmak exports its products to the EU, Central and South America, the CIS, the Middle East, Asia, and others – a total of 35 countries around the world.
As the company notes, with the onset of the pandemic, the demand for drugs used in the complex therapy of patients with COVID-19 has grown sharply around the world. In particular, the matter concerns corticosteroids, relaxants, analgesics, antibiotics, as well as drugs for anesthesia and sedation, which are necessary when connecting patients to ventilators.
“A number of such drugs by Farmak have been exported to Israel, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Germany, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Singapore, as well as shipped for the WHO use,” the company said.
Farmak production lines, besides national ones, have European GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certificates. This allows products to be sold in countries with particularly stringent regulatory requirements.
“Now we are preparing to undergo FDA inspection to enter the U.S. market. Our strategic goal is to increase the share of exports in total sales to 40%,” Volodymyr Kostiuk, the executive director of the company, said.
Farmak is the leader of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market, it produces medicines in all 14 therapeutic groups. Annually it introduces to the market about 20 new complex component modern drugs. Currently, there are about 100 drugs in development.
Farmak is a member of the Manufacturers of Medications of Ukraine association.
Ukraine since the beginning of the 2020/2021 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of May 7, 2021 had exported 39.24 million tonnes of grain and legumes, which is 23.6% less than on the same date of the previous MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, 15.14 million tonnes of wheat, 19.36 million tonnes of corn, 4.12 million tonnes of barley have been exported to date.
As of the indicated date, 107,000 tonnes of flour were also exported.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukraine exported 56.72 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops in the 2019/2020 MY.
As reported, the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine in February predicted a decline in exports of grains and legumes in the 2020/2021 MY by 20.5% compared to the previous MY, to 45.4 million tonnes.
JTI Ukraine tobacco company in 2020 produced 15.9 billion cigarettes at a factory in Kremenchuk (Poltava region), of which 6.04 billion were exported for $ 117.7 million, Director General of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Ukraine Paul Holloway said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He noted that the export of cigarettes by the company remains stable, despite the contraction of the Ukrainian cigarette market. Last year, JTI Ukraine exported its products to 14 countries, including Japan and Mexico.
“We are planning to turn the factory in Kremenchuk into a large export hub. Our factory is very flexible and can produce various types of products – we export not only cigarettes, but, for example, filters, which are then used to produce cigarettes in our other factories. We hope that our factory in Ukraine will continue to increase exports,” the director said.
He clarified that he hopes for further revenue growth from the export of the factory’s products in Kremenchuk. According to him, an important factor that influenced the company’s export plans was its obtaining the status of an authorized economic operator, which will reduce customs formalities when importing raw materials and exporting finished products.
Holloway noted that JTI, which received this status as the first in Ukraine, will receive a number of advantages when passing through customs formalities in Ukraine, including the opportunity to use a special dedicated traffic lane for commercial vehicles.
