UKRAINE SINCE START OF MARKETING YEAR EXPORTS 34 MLN TONNES OF GRAIN

Ukraine since the beginning of the 2020/2021 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of March 26, 2021 had exported 34.45 million tonnes of grains and legumes, which is 22.6% less than on the same date of the previous MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, to date, 14.16 million tonnes of wheat, 15.64 million tonnes of corn, 4.06 million tonnes of barley have been exported.
As of the indicated date, 96,200 tonnes of flour were also exported.
As reported, the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine in February predicted a decline in exports of grains and legumes in the 2020/2021 MY by 20.5% compared to the previous MY, to 45.4 million tonnes.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukraine exported 56.72 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops in the 2019/2020 MY.

EXPORT OF GRAIN FROM UKRAINE IN 2020/2021 MY TO BE 45.4 MLN TONNES – FORECAST

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in the 2020/2021 marketing year (MY) forecasts a decline in grain exports by 20.5% compared to the previous MY, to 45.4 million tonnes.
According to the forecast balance released by the ministry, in particular, wheat exports will decline by 14.6%, to 17.5 million tonnes, corn by 22.4%, to 23.5 million tonnes and barley by 23.8%, to 3.82 million tonnes.
According to the ministry, the total production of grains and legumes in this MY is expected at 65.5 million tonnes.

GRAIN EXPORTS FROM UKRAINE IN 2020/2021 MY SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN IN PREVIOUS MY – CUSTOMS

Ukraine exported in the current 2020/2021 marketing year (MY) and as of January 15 some 27.2 million tonnes of grain and legumes, while in the previous MY and as of January 20, some 33.9 million tonnes were supplied to foreign markets, the Economy Ministry said at its website with a link to the data of the State Customs Service.
“In the current 2020/2021 MY, some 12.6 million tonnes of wheat have already been exported. It fully meets the planned dynamics that we have agreed on with the specialized associations by signing the corresponding annex to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Grain Market,” Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Petrashko said.
The Economy Ministry said that out of 27.2 million tonnes of grains and legumes, in addition to wheat, 3.9 million tonnes of barley, 1,700 tonnes of rye and 10.3 million tonnes of corn were also supplied to foreign markets. In addition, 81,500 tonnes of flour in terms of grain were exported.
As reported, in the 2019/2020 marketing year and as of January 20, 2020, Ukraine exported 15.5 million tonnes of wheat, 3.8 million tonnes of barley and 14.2 million tonnes of corn, as well as 207,000 tonnes of flour in terms of grain.

UIG PAYS $1.133 MLN FOR GRAIN CARGO DAMAGED IN BEIRUT

Ukrainian Insurance Group (UIG, Kyiv) has paid insurance compensation in the amount of $1.333 million for a cargo of grain damaged as a result of an explosion in the port of the Lebanese capital Beirut on August 4, 2020, the insurance company has said.
The company said in a press release on its website that the blast wave spread 10 km from the explosion site. As a result, buildings and cars were damaged, the main port of Beirut, through which 60% of all Lebanese imports pass, was put out of action.
Among other things, a cargo of wheat insured by the UIG in the port was also destroyed. According to the insurance contract, the cargo was insured against all risks.
Ukrainian Insurance Group is a company with 100% foreign capital. It has been working in the Ukrainian conventional insurance market since 2000. It is part of one of the world’s largest insurance groups, the market leader in Central and Eastern Europe – Vienna Insurance.

GRAIN HARVEST IN UKRAINE IN 2020 TOTALS 65.4 MLN TONNES

In 2020, Ukrainian agricultural producers harvested 65.4 million tonnes of cereals and legumes from an area of 15.3 million hectares. The operational data of the regions on the results of the harvesting campaign was announced on Tuesday by Minister of Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture Ihor Petrashko.
According to a report on the ministry’s website, in particular, 25.1 million tonnes of wheat from 6.6 million hectares and 29.8 million tonnes of corn from 5.3 million hectares were harvested.
According to the State Statistics Service, in 2019 Ukraine harvested 75.1 million tonnes of cereals and legumes (70.1 million tonnes in 2018), of which 28.3 million tonnes of wheat (24.6 million tonnes) and 35.9 million tonnes of corn (35.8 million tonnes a year earlier).
“This year, the gross grain harvest amounted to 65.4 million tonnes, which is three times more than the needs of the domestic market, and also allows us to maintain a leading position in the export of agricultural products,” Petrashko said, commenting on the harvest results.
The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture said that the barley harvest this year was tentatively 7.8 million tonnes threshed from 2.4 million hectares (in 2019, according to the State Statistics Service, 8.9 million tonnes from 2.6 million hectares).
In addition, 516,200 tonnes of peas were harvested from an area of 237,700 hectares (573,000 tonnes from 253,400 hectares), 106,500 tonnes of buckwheat from 78,500 hectares (85,000 tonnes from 69,200 hectares), and 244,000 tonnes of millet from 150,400 hectares (169,700 tonnes from 93,300 hectares).
The sunflower harvest this year preliminary amounted to 13.1 million tonnes from 6.4 million hectares (15.3 million tonnes from almost 6 million hectares), rapeseed – 2.6 million tonnes from 1.1 million hectares (3.3 million tonnes from 1.3 million hectares) and soybeans – 2.8 million tonnes from 1.3 million hectares (3.7 million tonnes from 1.6 million hectares).
Farmers also harvested 9.2 million tonnes of sugar beet from 216,000 hectares, compared with 10.2 million tonnes from 221,000 hectares last year.
The minister explained the decline in the harvest of most crops by atypical weather conditions, but stressed that traditionally agricultural production in Ukraine has a surplus.
