Renault came in third with 5.83 thousand cars sold (up 45.2%).
According to experts, 6 thousand new cars were sold in December, which is slightly (0.5%) less than in November.
“The consequences of the border blockade were felt, but still, compared to December, the market grew by 45%,” the report states.
At the same time, Toyota was definitely in the lead with sales of more than 1 thousand new cars and 17% of the Ukrainian car market, Volkswagen finished second, but, as AUTO-Consulting notes, both official dealers and suppliers of electric vehicles from the Chinese market worked for this result.
The most popular model in December was the Renault Duster, which managed to bypass the Volkswagen ID.4 electric car, which had been leading the way throughout the fall.
As a result, Renault increased its sales by 40% overall, taking third place in the month’s ranking.
Experts also note the success of the Audi brand, whose dealers managed to outperform competitors among premium brands and take 7th place in the market (against 12th in November 2023).
In general, AUTO-Consulting believes that despite the difficulties at the Polish border, which made it difficult to supply cars in the planned volumes, 2023 was “the year of renewal of the Ukrainian car market and growth of its potential.”
“The recovery of the car market was even better than the trend of 2014-2016. The result is similar to 2016, when 64.5 thousand cars were sold. However, it took seven long years to reach 103.6 thousand cars (as in pre-war 2021),” says Oleg Omelnytsky, director of AUTO-Consulting, on his Facebook page.
He noted that in the last two months of last year, a very high share of electric vehicles in the market was recorded – almost 20% (compared to 10% in 2022 and 1.5% in 2021).
“In addition, the share of so-called “gray” dealers has increased significantly – 21%. The last time I remember this was in the 90s and early 2000s,” he wrote.
As reported, according to Ukravtoprom, in 2022, Ukrainians registered 37.9 thousand new passenger cars, 63% less than a year earlier, and according to AUTO-Consulting, sales decreased by 61.5% to 40.08 thousand units.

“The growing demand for hybrids and battery-powered cars is rapidly changing the structure of the market,” Ukravtoprom noted.
As reported, Ukrainians in 2022 bought 13.6 thousand electric cars – 1.5 times more than a year earlier, while the share of new ones increased to 17% from 14%.
Registrations in Ukraine of new commercial vehicles (trucks and special vehicles) in June amounted to 1,068 units, which is 12% more than in May this year and 2.5 times more than in June 2022, “Ukravtoprom” reported in Telegram channel.
“This is the best result in the last 17 months,” stated in the message.
At the same time, compared to the pre-war June-2021 registrations of commercial cars decreased by 26%.
The top five commercial vehicles on the market in June were: Renault – 356 units; Scania – 127 units; Volkswagen – 67 units; Peugeot – 60 units and Mercedes-Benz – 53 units.
Total, according to the Association, in the first half of the year 5,190 new trucks were added to the Ukrainian park of trucks and special vehicles, which is 61% more than during the same period last year.
In its turn, analytical group Auto-Consulting, analyzing the segment of trucks on its web-site on Tuesday, points out that in June there is again a record of their delivery to the Ukrainian market – 440 units, which is 2.2 times more than in June last year.
“And it is not a situational jump, because according to the results of six months we record the growth of the market by 89%”, – the experts state.
According to the group’s data, in June this segment of the market was headed by Scania, which managed to take 29% of the market, the second result was gained by DAF with 9%. IVECO, Renault, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz also increase their sales.
“There is a segment of trucks of 3.6-8 tons with a gross weight which is developing powerfully, where European producers are more and more present. But Chinese brands have started to actively develop the segment of communal machinery and have already achieved certain success. Now any tender on this theme consists of at least three or four proposals on the chassis of Chinese manufacturers”, – is noted in the report.
According to analysts, the high rate of recovery of the truck market is primarily due to the fact that businesses are trying to increase their own fleets to transport goods through the new logistics corridors.
As it was reported with reference to Ukravtoprom, in 2022 the market of new commercial vehicles was added 6.9 thousand new cars – 2.3 times less than in 2021.
Primary registrations of used cars imported from abroad in April 2023 increased by almost 8% compared to March 2023 – up to 15.3 thousand units, which was the highest number of registrations per month since the beginning of the year, said the association “Ukravtoprom” in Telegram-channel.
The largest share in this segment of the car market belongs to gasoline cars – 45%, followed by diesel cars – 36%, electric cars – 11%, cars with HFO – 5% and hybrids – 3%.

The Association says that the demand for passenger cars increased 8 times compared with March of the last year, but only because of the low comparison base (March 2022 was the first month of full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine – IF-U).
Toyota remains the leader of registrations – 648 units, second place again belongs to Renault with 438 cars (in February the brand was 5th), third place – to Volkswagen with registrations of 432 cars.
