Ukrainian agrarians threshed 71.5 mln tons of harvest-2023 – Ministry of Agrarian Policy

Agrarians of all regions of Ukraine have threshed 71.5 million tons of grain and oilseed crops – 51.275 million tons and 20.239 million respectively, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported.

According to the press release, the harvest of grain and leguminous crops was carried out on an area of 9840 thousand hectares with a yield of 52.1 c/ha.

It is also specified that to date, Ukraine has completed the collection and threshing of barley from 1505 thousand hectares (101% of the plan), which received 5.890 million tons; wheat – 22.409 million tons from 4695 thousand hectares (101%); peas – 398.2 thousand tons from 154.4 thousand hectares (103%), as well as rape – 4.005 million tons of seeds from 1396 thousand hectares (98%).

Harvesting of millet is coming to an end. 178.9 thousand tons of millet was harvested from 79 thousand hectares (94%), and buckwheat – 206.57 thousand tons from 139.2 thousand hectares (98%). At the same time, 21.218 million tons of corn was harvested from 2932.3 thousand hectares (60%).

In addition, other cereals and leguminous crops threshed 974.1 thousand tons from 336.2 thousand hectares.

Ukraine continues to work on oilseeds, which were harvested from a total area of 8096 thousand hectares. Harvested, in particular, sunflower – 11.520 million tons (11.310 million tons a week earlier) from an area of 4.911 million hectares (94%), soybeans – 4.713 million tons (4.643 million tons) from 1.788 million hectares (97%).

Sugar beet was dug from the area of 211.3 thousand hectares (183.8 thousand hectares a week earlier), which amounted to 50% of the planned area. It was received 10.098 million tons.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy also monitors information on crop yields, which amounted to 47.7 c/ha for wheat, 39.2 c/ha for barley, 25.8 c/ha for peas, 22.6 c/ha for millet and 14.9 c/ha for buckwheat. Corn yield – 72.4 c/ha, rapeseed – 28.7 c/ha, soybean – 26.3 c/ha, sunflower – 23.5 c/ha. Yield of sugar beet – 477.9 c/ha.

As reported, winter wheat sowing this season amounted to 4166 thousand hectares (-834 thousand hectares to the previous season), winter barley – 536 thousand hectares (-255 thousand hectares), rape – 1374 thousand hectares (+110 thousand hectares).

According to the adjusted forecast of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2023 agrarians will be able to harvest 79.1 million tons of cereals and oilseeds, of which cereals will be produced in the following volumes: wheat – 21.7 million tons, barley – 5.7 million tons and corn – 28.5 million tons. Gross production of oilseeds will reach 21.6 million tons, in particular, sunflower – 13 million tons, rapeseed – 4 million tons, soybeans – 4.6 million tons. The sugar beet harvest is forecasted at 13.7 million tons.

Ukraine cuts steel output by 12-16%

In January-October this year, Ukrainian steelmakers cut production of total rolled products by 13% year-on-year to 4.365 million tons, according to preliminary data.

According to Ukrmetallurgprom, steel production decreased by 11.7% year-on-year to 5.162 million tons in the first ten months of this year, down to 5.7 million tons in January-October 2022.

Pig iron production during this period decreased by 15.6% to 4.906 million tons.

As reported, in 9M2023, Ukraine reduced production of total rolled products by 17% year-on-year to 3.929 million tons, steel by 16.9% to 4.590 million tons, and pig iron by 19.5% to 4.394 million tons.

In 2022, the country’s steelmaking companies reduced production of total rolled products by 72% year-on-year to 5.350 million tons, steel by 70.7% to 6.263 million tons, and pig iron by 69.8% to 6.391 million tons.

In 2021, the company produced 21.165 million tons of pig iron (103.6% compared to 2020), 21.366 million tons of steel (103.6%), and 19.079 million tons of rolled products (103.5%).

Ukraine cuts exports of semi-finished steel products in tons by 40%

In January-October this year, Ukraine reduced exports of carbon steel semi-finished products in physical terms by 40.4% year-on-year to 1 million 34,588 thousand tons.

According to the statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), exports of semi-finished carbon steel products amounted to $529.584 million in monetary terms over the period (down 51.6%).

The main exports were made to Bulgaria (35.42% of supplies in monetary terms), Poland (23.85%) and Italy (9.97%).

In January-October, Ukraine imported 92 tons of semi-finished products from China worth $169 thousand, while in September-October, no imports were made.

As reported, in 2022, Ukraine decreased exports of carbon steel semi-finished products in physical terms by 72% compared to the previous year, to 1 million 899.729 thousand tons, and in monetary terms by 70.9%, to $1 billion 191.279 million. The main exports were made to Bulgaria (26.55% of supplies in monetary terms), Poland (13.97%) and Italy (12.13%).

In addition, Ukraine imported 5,558 thousand tons of similar products in 2022, which is 85.7% less than in 2021. In monetary terms, imports decreased by 86% to $3.634 million. Imports were carried out from the Russian Federation (96.92% of supplies before the war), China (1.84%), and Romania (1.21%).

Ukraine cuts titanium ore exports by 96.3%, revenues by 85%

In January-October this year, Ukraine reduced exports of titanium ores and concentrate in physical terms by 96.3% year-on-year to 10.170 thousand tons.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS) on Wednesday, exports of titanium ores and concentrate decreased by 84.7% to $16.983 million in monetary terms.

The main exports were to Turkey (36.92% of supplies in monetary terms), Japan (18.90%) and the Netherlands (6.04%).

During the period, Ukraine imported 1 ton of such ore from the Netherlands for $2 thousand.

As reported, in 2022, Ukraine reduced exports of titanium ore and concentrate in physical terms by 41.8% compared to the previous year to 322.143 thousand tons, and in monetary terms by 19.6% to $130.144 million. At the same time, the main exports were made to the Czech Republic (47.91% of supplies in monetary terms), the United States (11.94%) and Romania (9.75%).

In 2022, Ukraine imported 196 tons of similar products from Senegal (70.41%) and Turkey (29.59%) for $115 thousand.

In Ukraine, titanium ores are currently mined mainly by the United Mining and Chemical Company (UMCC), which manages Vilnohirsk Mining and Metallurgical Plant (VGMK, Dnipro region) and Irshansk Mining and Metallurgical Plant (Irshansk, Dnipro region). ) and Irshansk Mining and Processing Plant (IGOK, Zhytomyr region), as well as Mezhirichinsky GOK and Valky Ilmenite (both based in Irshansk, Zhytomyr region).

In addition, Velta (Dnipro) has built a mining and processing plant at Birzulivske deposit with a capacity of 240 thousand tons of ilmenite concentrate per year.

Ukraine cuts coke imports by 20%

In January-October this year, Ukraine reduced imports of coke and semi-coke in physical terms by 20% compared to the same period last year, to 268,550 thousand tons.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS) on Wednesday, coke imports in monetary terms decreased by 36.7% to $105.546 million during this period.

Ukraine exported 3.324 thousand tons of coke in 10 months of 2023, down 10.1% year-on-year. In monetary terms, it decreased by 21.6% to $774 thousand.

Exports were carried out to Moldova (100% of supplies in monetary terms), while imports were mainly from Poland (87.60%), Colombia (9.48%) and the Czech Republic (2.12%).

As reported, in 2022, Ukraine reduced exports of coke and semi-coke in physical terms by 98% compared to the previous year – to 3,856 thousand tons, and in monetary terms by 97.6% – to $1,011 million. The main exports were made to Hungary (42.63% of supplies in monetary terms), Georgia (37.69%) and Turkey (17.41%).

In 2022, Ukraine imported 359.192 thousand tons of coke and semi-coke, which is 54.5% less than in 2021. In monetary terms, imports decreased by 50.3% to $174.499 million. Imports were carried out mainly from the Russian Federation (43.43% of supplies in monetary terms, before the war), Poland (30.07%) and the Czech Republic (13.15%).

As a result of the war, a number of mines and coke plants are located in the territories temporarily not controlled by Ukraine.
