TRANSPORT ENTERPRISES OF UKRAINE REDUCE CARGO HANDLING BY 3.6% IN Q1

The transport enterprises of Ukraine (excluding the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as part of the JFO area) in January-March 2021 reducedtransportation of goods by 3.6% compared to the same period in 2020, to 135.3 million tonnes, the State Statistics Service has reported.
According to its data, the freight turnover of carriers for the specified period decreased by 5.9%, to 64.4 billion tonne-kilometers.
According to statistics, in the first quarter of 2021, some 69.7 million tonnes of goods weretransported by rail in domestic traffic and for export, which is 5.7% less than in January-March 2020. Some 43.2 million tonnes (less by 0.5%) weretransported by road, 700,000 tonnes (less by 16.1%) by water, 21.7 million tonnes (less by 2.1%) by pipeline, 20,000 tonnes (more by 15.6%) by air.

IN JAN-MAY SEAPORTS OF UKRAINE HANDLED 55.4 MLN TONNES OF CARGO

In January-May 2021, the seaports of Ukraine handled 55.4 million tonnes of cargo, which is 18.6% less than in the same period in 2020.
As reported on the website of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), the specified period, the ports mainly handled ore and grain cargo – 15.7 million tonnes (14.1% down) and 14.6 million tonnes (33.1% down) respectively.
At the same time, the transshipment of oil products grew by 46.7% and amounted to 657,700 tonnes.
In January-May, the transshipment of export cargo amounted to 42.6 million tonnes (18.6% down compared to the same period in 2020), import reached 8.8 million tonnes (13.4% down), transit totaled 3.4 million tonnes (25% down), and coastal cargo handling was 484,800 tonnes (42.5% down).
In addition, 415,532 TEU containers were handled in the first five months of this year, which is 6.4% less than in the same period in 2020.
As reported, the seaports of Ukraine in January-April 2021 handled 44.1 million tonnes of cargo, which is 19.6% less than in the same period in 2020.

STATE-RUN UKRZALIZNYTSIA PLANS TO LEASE CARGO TERMINALS

Ukrzaliznytsia is planning pilot projects for the long-term lease of cargo terminals.
“We are planning several pilot projects related to the long-term lease of our assets, such as cargo terminals. We want to create centers with international players on the basis of cargo terminals,” Ukrzaliznytsia head Volodymyr Zhmak said during the All-Ukrainian Forum Ukraine 30.Infrastructure on Tuesday.
According to him, these projects will also create an opportunity of additional employment. The company really plans to optimize staff, but primarily at the expense of administrative and managerial staff, Zhmak said.

CHORNOMORSK SEAPORT CUTS CARGO HANDLING BY 38% IN JAN

Chornomorsk seaport (Odesa region) in January 2021 reduced handling of goods by 38.3% compared to January 2020, to 1.424 million tonnes.
According to the information on the website of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, during the specified period, Chornomorsk seaport reduced handling of export cargo by 37.3%, to 1.197 million tonnes, import cargo by 43.3%, to 178,870 tonnes, and transit cargo by 38, to 48,830 tonnes. At the same time, coastal cargo was not handled.
Handling of bulk cargo in the port decreased by 16.8%, to 90,860 tonnes, dry bulk cargo by 44.9%, to 910,480 tonnes, and packaged goods by 22.8%, to 423,460 tonnes.
Handling of containers amounted to 13,267 TEU (an increase of 1.9%) in January 2021.
As reported, Chornomorsk seaport in 2020 reduced cargo handling by 8.7% compared to 2019, to 23.887 million tonnes.
Chornomorsk seaport is a universal international port, one of the largest on the Black Sea. The enterprise has specialized terminals and complexes that allow handling a wide range of cargo: liquid, bulk, general. The seaport’s 29 berths are capable of receiving vessels with a carrying capacity of up to 100,000 tonnes. The port’s annual designed capacity is over 30 million tonnes.

UKRAINIAN TRANSPORT COMPANIES REDUCE CARGO TRANSPORTATION BY 11% IN 2020

Ukrainian transport companies, as well as part of the JFO zone) reduced the cargo transportation by 11.2% in 2020 compared to 2019, to 600 million tonnes, the State Statistics Service said.
According to it, in 2020, the cargo turnover of carriers decreased by 14.3%, to 290.3 billion tonne-kilometers.
According to statistics, in 2020, some 305.5 million tonnes of cargo were transported by rail in domestic traffic and for export, which is 2.4% less than in 2019. Some 191.3 million tonnes (less by 21.7%) were transported by road, 5.6 million tonnes (less by 8.3%) by water transport, 97.5 million tonnes (less by 13.5%) by pipelines, and 100,000 tonnes (less by 6.7%) by air.
