“Forests of Ukraine” to Resume Construction of 25 Roads in April

The state-owned enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” will resume work on 25 projects involving the construction of forest roads with a total length of nearly 90 km in April, the company’s press service announced on Facebook. According to the report, construction of the projects began in the fall of 2025 in the Carpathian, Northern, Podillia, Polissia, and Kyiv branches. Work was suspended for the winter, but contractors are now resuming the projects.

“During the construction of forest roads, temporary storage sites are being established for the storage, sorting, and shipment of forest products. Road signs and signal posts are being installed. Economic and social factors are being taken into account during implementation, and fire safety measures are being ensured,” stated “Forests of Ukraine.”

According to the state-owned enterprise, a new road in the Nadvirna Forest District, over 2 km long, will provide access to forest stands with a timber stock of 22,700 cubic meters. In the Korosten Forest District, the completion of a 3-kilometer road will shorten the route for logging trucks by 10 km. It is expected that thanks to logistics optimization, the cost per cubic meter of timber in this area will decrease by approximately 20%.

“Forests of Ukraine” clarified that construction in the Putyl Forest District will shorten the route for residents of mountain settlements to the district center by 10 km. In addition, major repairs to the road in the Mekshuniv Forest District (Chernihiv Oblast) will ensure that firefighting equipment can reach a body of water, which will be equipped with a pier for rapid water intake.

Overall, the state-owned enterprise plans to build 60 forest roads with a total length of over 200 km by 2026.

Ukrcement calls on communities to make more active use of concrete in road construction

The Ukrcement Association advocates for the wider use of cement concrete technologies in road construction in Ukraine and calls on communities to prepare standard solutions and a package of regulatory documents for the rapid restoration of damaged sections, the association announced following the results of the scientific and practical seminar “Cement-concrete roads: technologies, standards, prospects,” which took place on February 11 in Kyiv.

In her report, Lyudmila Krypka, executive director of the Ukrcement association, emphasized the cement industry’s ability to fully supply the domestic market with cement. She also highlighted the transition to European standards in products and regulation, in particular GOST EN 197-1 and the requirements for declarations and the responsibility of participants in the construction product supply chain.

According to Ukrcement, in the context of infrastructure restoration, concrete technologies can be a practical tool for communities both for the construction of individual sections and for road repairs, and the immediate task is to develop standard designs, materials, and technologies that allow restoration work to be carried out in many cases without the involvement of large road companies.

“The most difficult times are times of change. It is important to use these changes for the benefit of the country’s development,” Krypka emphasized, stressing the importance of implementing best practices using domestic building materials that create added value for the economy.

As noted by the association, the development of cement-concrete roads is of strategic importance and could become one of the drivers of the country’s recovery and the formation of a sustainable European-level infrastructure.

Moldova plans new high-speed highway to Ukraine

The Moldovan government is preparing to build a high-speed highway that will connect the border with Romania and run to Odesa. Doina Nistor, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Economy of Moldova, said this at the opening of Moldova Business Week.

Currently, a feasibility study is being prepared to determine the possible route of the road and whether parts of the new route will use existing roads.

In addition, Moldova is modernizing both rail and road corridors. The feasibility study for the Ungheni-Chisinau-Odesa corridor is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.

The road will be of particular importance for Ukraine’s reconstruction, as it will help shorten routes, reduce logistics costs and increase the resilience of supply routes.

Once the feasibility study is completed, a final decision on the route and construction details will be made. The project will depend on funding, international support, and cooperation between the governments of Moldova and Ukraine (and possibly Romania).
