Electric vehicle registrations in Ukraine fell by 47% year-over-year in August

In August of this year, 4,200 electric vehicles (new and used) were added to Ukraine’s vehicle fleet, which is 47% fewer than in the same month last year, according to a report by “Ukravtoprom” on its Telegram channel.

At the same time, compared to July of this year, electric vehicle registrations rose by 7.7%.

As usual, passenger cars accounted for the majority of registered electric vehicles—4,074, of which 503 were new (-73%) and 3,571 were used (-37%).

Of the 160 commercial BEVs, only two were new (in August 2025, 24 out of 175 were new).

The most popular new electric vehicles in July 2026 were the BYD Sea Lion 06 EV—102 units; the Zeekr 001—46 units; the Zeekr 7X—44 units; the MG4 EV—36 units; and the Toyota BZ4X—33 units.

Among used vehicles, the most frequently first-registered models were the Tesla Model Y—494 units, the Tesla Model 3—480 units, the Nissan Leaf—454 units, the Chevrolet Bolt—199 units, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5—160 units.

As previously reported, a sharp increase in demand for electric vehicles began last summer due to plans to introduce a value-added tax (VAT) on the customs clearance of electric vehicles starting January 1, 2026. Specifically, in December—the last month during which electric vehicles could be cleared through customs without

VAT—demand for them increased 8.6-fold compared to December 2024, reaching 32,800 units.

In total, 110,200 electric vehicles were added to Ukraine’s vehicle fleet in 2025—twice as many as in the previous year. New vehicles accounted for 20% of the total, compared to 24% in 2024.

Ukraine to participate in Nikola Tesla Film Festival in Las Vegas

According to Serbian Economist, the first international Nikola Tesla Film Festival, dedicated to the life and legacy of Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla, will be held on January 7, 2026, in Las Vegas (USA) at the Palms Casino Resort.

According to the festival organizers, the goal of the event is to use film to show Tesla’s lasting influence on modern civilization—from electric power to wireless communications—while strengthening the cultural bridge between Serbia and the US.

According to their data, 120 applications have already been submitted from around the world, including the USA, Canada, Japan, India, European countries, Ukraine, Latin America, and Africa.

The program will include feature films and documentaries that explore the themes of science, innovation, and “visions of the future.” In addition to screenings, there will be cash prizes and a special prize—a Tesla statuette—as well as a separate award for projects created using artificial intelligence technologies, which, according to the organizers, will set a precedent for the US festival landscape.

The festival remains open to international submissions, with participation free for students to encourage young filmmakers to explore scientific and technological themes and the legacy of Nikola Tesla.

Elon Musk presented modular house project from Tesla

Founder and CEO Elon Musk announced the launch of a new project from his company Tesla, Inc. — a modular house that will be manufactured and assembled using a model similar to that used in the production of electric cars. The company has published a video announcement demonstrating the assembly of modules, the installation of “smart” systems, integration with energy infrastructure, and the possibility of quick installation on site.

According to Musk, the Tesla modular home will have a number of key features, namely:

  • assembly from prefabricated blocks at the factory with minimal construction work on site;
  • integration with the Tesla Energy system — solar panels, Powerwall storage batteries, and a home smart control system;
  • high energy efficiency and low operating costs;
  • scalability — from compact options to multi-level configurations.

Musk noted that “the housing of the future must be built quickly, efficiently, and with minimal impact on the environment,” and that Tesla “can do for buildings what it has done for transportation.” According to him, the first prototypes will be assembled as early as 2026, and mass production is planned to start in 2027.

The company expects modular homes to be in demand both in the US market and abroad, especially in places with rising real estate prices and housing shortages. Musk emphasized that Tesla is considering partnerships with builders and developers around the world.

Elon Musk is one of the most famous entrepreneurs of our time. Born in 1971 in South Africa, he later moved to Canada and the US. He founded or was one of the key figures in companies such as PayPal, SpaceX, and Tesla. Musk has become a symbol of “21st-century technological entrepreneurship.”

Tesla, Inc. is an American company founded in 2003 that specializes in electric vehicles, renewable energy solutions, and stationary storage. On Musk’s initiative, the company scaled up production, launched Gigafactory, and became one of the leaders in the green tech sector.

The launch of the modular home project demonstrates the expansion of Tesla’s business format — from transportation and energy to residential construction — and may become a new growth vector in the field of “smart homes” and sustainable construction.

Tesla completes construction of plant for production of energy storage devices in China

American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla plans to complete the construction of a plant in Shanghai to produce Megapack energy storage devices by the end of this year, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement from the company’s local office.

Construction of the plant began in late May. The plant covers an area of about 200 thousand square meters, and the total investment in this project is estimated at about 1.45 billion yuan ($202 million).

The facility will be Tesla’s first energy storage project outside the United States and the company’s second plant in Shanghai after the electric vehicle gigafactory, with total investments exceeding 50 billion yuan.

Mass production of Megapack at the new facility is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025. At the initial stage, the production volume will be 10 thousand drives per year, which is equivalent to approximately 40 GWh of electricity.

Megapack is a 3.9 MWh battery for energy storage and power supply support, its use contributes to the stability of power grids and prevents interruptions in their operation, according to Tesla’s website. The American company already has a Megapack production plant in California with a capacity of 10 thousand units per year.
