UKRAINIAN GRAIN HARVEST COULD GROW BY 3% IN 2018/2019 AGRI-YEAR, EXPORTS COULD BE 43.3 MLN TONNES

Grain harvest in Ukraine in the 2018/19 agricultural year (July-June) could grow by 3% compared with the previous year, to 61.85 million tonnes, according to projections of the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA). “In the 2017/18 agri-year exports of grain will be 40.6 million tonnes, and next agri-year we forecast growth of exports by 6%, to 43.3 million tonnes,” UGA President Mykolav Horbachev said.
In particular, wheat harvest in the 2018/19 agir-year could expand by 2.2%, to 27.1 million tonnes, that for corn – by 9%, to 27 million tonnes, and the barley harvest could narrow by 9.3%, to 7.8 million tonnes.
The association said that in the 2018/19 agri-year wheat exports could grow by 5.8%, to 18 million tonnes, corn – by 10.5%, to 21 million tonnes, and barley exports could fall by 6.5%, to 4.3 million tonnes.
As of April 24, 2018, Ukraine exported 15.4 million tonnes of wheat, 4.1 million tonnes of barley and 13.8 million tonnes of corn, according to the UGA.

UKRAINE ANNOUNCES TENDER TO SELECT INDEPENDENT MEMBERS OF UKRENERGO AND UKRZALIZNYTSIA SUPERVISORY BOARDS

The Ukrainian government has posted the conditions for tenders to select independent members of supervisory board of Ukrzaliznytsia and Ukrenergo on its website. The documents for participating in the tender can be submitted before May 14. The tender will start on May 21, and its results will be published on the government’s website before July 3, 2018.
Candidates for an independent member of the supervisory board of Ukrzaliznytsia should have at least 10 years’ period of service in senior positions in companies or in the civil service, in particular in such areas as railway transportation, finance, engineering, accounting and audit, management, business administration or jurisprudence, but not limited to them; have an impeccable business reputation; fluent in Ukrainian or English.
In addition, the applicant must not be (including during the previous five years) a founder, shareholder, head, member of the supervisory board, an employee or a representative of a person to which Ukraine applies personal, special economic or other restrictive measures (sanctions), and also do not have a significant business relationship with this person. Candidates must have one or several professional competencies in the following areas: strategic management, rail transport, operational efficiency, finance and audit, corporate governance, compliance and risk management, international relations.
The similar requirements are put forward to the candidates for the position of independent member of the Ukrenergo: no less than ten years of experience in senior positions in companies or in the civil service in the electricity sector, regulation of energy markets, finance, accounting, engineering, management, business administration or law.
Potential members of the supervisory board of Ukrenergo must meet the criteria of independence in accordance with the requirements of the legislation of Ukraine and the EU, pay to the position at least 30 working days a year, be fluent in Ukrainian or English, have a basic understanding of the laws regulating the scope of activities of Ukrenergo and the EU energy market, trends and prospects of the industry.
Key competencies of the candidates for the position of a member of Ukrenergo’s supervisory board are the following: strategic management; management of the power transmission system; competitive electricity market; operational efficiency; finance and audit; corporate governance; compliance and risk management.
The advantage will be the experience of working in supervisory boards, international companies and international markets, the experience of attracting investors and experience in managing transformational processes and complex projects of organizational change.

PM GROYSMAN: GROWTH OF IT SECTOR IN UKRAINE IN 2017 IS 20%

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said that the growth of the IT sector in Ukraine last year was 20%. He said that the similar growth is planned for this year. “In 2017, the IT industry brought $3.6 billion of export revenue to the country. The share of the IT sector of the country’s GDP is around 3.4%. As of early 2018, over 120,000 employees and engineers worked in the sector, and their number is permanently growing,” he wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. He also said that in May it is planned to hold a new ‘deregulation’ meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers: “We will continue annulling piles of unnecessary regulations and approve the required decisions, first of all, for the IT sector.”

CHINESE HUAWEI SEEKS TO INCREASE SHARE OF UKRAINIAN ICT MARKET TO 10% IN 2018

Huawei Ukraine seeks to increase its share of the Ukrainian information and communication technology market (ICT) from 1% to 10%, the press service of the company has told Interfax-Ukraine, referring to Huawei Ukraine Head Haojie Zhou. “Ukrainian enterprises are ready to introduce modern ICT. We set ambitious goals – to occupy 10% of the market in a year,” he said at the first Enterprise Day annual partner meeting in Kyiv on Tuesday.
The company said as of late 2017 they assess the ICT market in Ukraine in the amount from $100 million to $200 million, and their share of the market at over 1%.
Huawei is a large Chinese communication company and a large smartphone manufacturer in the world. It was founded in China in 1987.
Huawei Ukraine was registered in 2005.

HEIDELBERGCEMENT SEES 14% RISE IN NET LOSS IN UKRAINE IN 2017

Private joint-stock company HeidelbergCement Ukraine (Dnipro), uniting Ukrainian cement plants of HeidelbergCement Group (Germany), saw a 14.4% rise in net loss in 2017, to UAH 431 million. According to a company report in the information disclosure system of the National Commission for Securities and the Stock Market, its net revenue grew by 11.3%, to UAH 1.8 billion, and assets rose by 4.5%, to UAH 1.75 billion.
The company saw UAH 1.2 billion of uncovered loss in 2017 (62% up year-over-year).
Current liabilities soared 2.4-fold, to UAH 2.4 billion, and noncurrent liabilities fell by 92%, to UAH 89.1 million.
HeidelbergCement Ukraine was founded in 2002. It is engaged in production of cement and clinker. The main shareholder of the company with a share of 99.8308%, according to the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, is CBR Portland B.V., part of HeidelbergCement Group.

A-95 CONSULTING COMPANY: FUEL PRICES CHANGES IN UKRAINE OVER WEEK

Average retail prices for petrol, diesel fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Ukraine in the period from April 16 to April 23, 2018 changed in various ways, according to data from the A-95 Consulting Group (Kyiv).
As reported, average retail prices for petrol in Ukraine for 2017 increased by 19.2-20.1% (by UAH 4.61-4.76 per liter), for diesel fuel by 22.6% (by UAH 4.84 per liter). At the same time, average prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), despite a sharp increase in August due to deficit, showed an increase of only 2.9% for the year (by UAH 0.36 per liter).
