DTEK Energo’s machine builders manufactured and repaired 1.2 million units of mining equipment from January through September of this year, including 10 new tunnel boring machines and longwall shearers, as well as four electric motors, according to a press release from DTEK Energo.
During this period, they also produced 1.5 million spare parts and components.
As previously reported, over the first nine months of last year, DTEK Energo’s machine-building plants manufactured and repaired 2,500 units of mining equipment (including six new mining combines and one mine fan) and 1.8 million spare parts and components.
“Preparing for winter is a joint effort by the entire energy team. Miners, power engineers, maintenance workers, and machine builders are working as a single unit today, because the energy sector’s readiness for the most challenging period of the year depends on the coordinated efforts of everyone. Machine builders not only manufacture and repair equipment but also test new technical solutions and verify their effectiveness under real production conditions,” DTEK Energo CEO Oleksandr Fomenko is quoted as saying in the press release.
DTEK Energo ensures a closed-loop cycle of coal-fired power generation. By the end of 2025, DTEK Energo had invested 6.7 billion hryvnias in supporting Ukrainian coal mining, and over the previous three years (2022–2024)—more than 18 billion hryvnias. The funds were allocated for the development and repair of mine workings, equipping mining faces, and maintaining the mines’ production capacity.
Its machinery manufacturing assets include Korum DrMZ, which was relocated to Dnipro in 2022; the Kharkiv-based “Svitlo Shakhtarya” plant; and the Pershotravensk Repair and Mechanical Plant.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy is working to prepare state-owned coal mining enterprises for transfer to the State Property Fund (SPF) and subsequent privatization, Deputy Minister of Energy Valentina Moskalenko said.
“The Ministry of Energy has indeed prepared our proposals for the government’s action plan, and we are indeed working to prepare all (coal) enterprises for transfer to the State Property Fund, with a view to their subsequent privatization and the search for an effective private investor for them,” Moskalenko said during an online meeting of the Verkhovna Rada’s Energy Committee on Monday.
She also added that the Ministry of Energy, together with the Ministry of Finance, has resolved the issue of compensation for wage arrears, unused vacation time, and all other payments required by law to employees of the two mines being liquidated: “Mine No. 9” (Volyn Oblast) and the “Nadiya” mine (Lviv Oblast).
“The draft plans for the liquidation of the mines are ready, funds are available to carry out the liquidation work, and everyone who wished to transfer to other enterprises has done so,” noted the deputy head of the Ministry of Energy.
At the same time, Moskalenko emphasized that the operations of the state-owned enterprise “Lvivvuhillia” have always been accompanied by debts, and this issue must be resolved.
“Lvivvuhillya has always had debts, with varying trends, and they have never gone away; now all the debts remain with the state-owned mines. We must do everything possible to restore the health of the state-owned coal mining sector,” Moskalenko emphasized.

The Ukrainian Red Cross (URC) has launched mine risk education sessions for children at summer camps.
“The first sessions have already taken place in the city of Samar in the Dnipropetrovsk region at a local high school, where Ukrainian Red Cross specialists, together with inspectors from the Educational Safety Service, held an interactive session for children at the summer camp,” the URC reported on Facebook on Monday.
During the session, participants learned how to identify potentially dangerous objects, studied safety protocols, practiced practical scenarios, and reinforced the golden rule: “Don’t approach, don’t touch, call 101 or 102.”
Throughout the summer, similar informational sessions will be held at summer camps and children’s centers across all regions of Ukraine.
The Sukha Balka mine (Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast), part of Alexander Yaroslavsky’s DCH Group, has commissioned two new iron ore mining sections, which are scheduled to be developed throughout the spring.
According to information in the DCH Steel corporate newsletter on Thursday, for each production unit, the company’s specialists take into account the specific characteristics of the ore deposit and the mining-geological conditions. After analyzing the data, they apply technological solutions that ensure the most efficient extraction possible.
It is noted that on March 13, at the Yuvileina Mine, block 110-116 in the “Glavny” deposit was put into production on the seventh sub-level of the “minus” 1,420 m horizon. Given the characteristics of the ore body, the classic mining method using scraper winches was employed here. The block’s reserves are estimated at 37,200 tons, with an average iron content of 59.25%. The block’s reserves are expected to last for two months of operation.
In addition, it is reported that at the Frunze Mine, technological processes—from preparation to loading—are carried out using self-propelled machines. On March 19, Block 51-57 was commissioned here, located in the “Druzhba” deposit at a depth of “minus” 1,227 m. The block’s reserves amount to 48,200 tons of high-quality raw material (62.83%), which will be sufficient for three months of stable operation.
“A differentiated approach to technology selection—from the scraper method to the use of self-propelled equipment—allows for flexible operation in various mining conditions and maintains stable raw material quality,” the corporate publication notes.
Since the beginning of 2026, four new production units with a total reserve of 258,900 tons have been put into operation at the Sukha Balka mine. In particular, in March, Block 67-71 was commissioned at the Yuvileina Mine on the seventh sub-level of the “Shurfa” deposit at the “minus” 1,420 m level.
