According to Serbian Economist, Montenegrin Budva has been granted the right to host the 10th European Paragliding Championships in the precision landing discipline, which will take place from September 30 to October 7, 2028.
The decision was made at the 51st plenary session of the Paragliding Commission of the World Aviation Federation CIVL/FAI, which took place in Porto.
Montenegro’s competitor in the race to host the tournament was Kosovo.
The delegation of the Air Sports Union of Montenegro was led by its president, Zoran Lakić. In addition to presenting their bid for the European Championship, representatives of the union held talks with the leadership of the World Aviation Federation on further international programs. In particular, they discussed the possibility of holding air races in Budva in 2027, as well as a World Hot Air Balloon Festival in 2028 in several cities in Montenegro.
For Budva, hosting the European championship could be an additional factor in the development of event and sports tourism outside the peak summer season.
According to Serbian Economist, Montenegro recorded 2.73 million tourist arrivals and 15.37 million overnight stays in 2025, according to published statistics.
Tourists from Serbia (23.4%) and Russia (16.4%) lead the way in terms of overnight stays. They are followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina (8.1%) and Germany (4.6%). Ukraine ranked fifth, with Ukrainian tourists accounting for 4.3% of all overnight stays, the same as tourists from Turkey. Next in the statistics is the United Kingdom (4.1%).

According to Serbian Economist, Montenegro has extended temporary protection for people from Ukraine until March 4, 2027, according to a decision published in Službeni list Crne Gore No. 27/26.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro has called on Ukrainian citizens whose foreigner’s certificate with temporary protection status is valid until March 4, 2026, to contact the territorial division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at their place of residence to exchange the document and extend their status. For those applying for the first time after the decision comes into force, temporary protection will also be granted until March 4, 2027.
According to the Montenegrin Ministry of Internal Affairs, since the decision on temporary protection came into force (March 14, 2022) until March 2, 2026, 15,820 applications have been submitted, of which 14,893 have been approved.
Temporary protection in Montenegro entitles beneficiaries to legal residence and access to basic rights, including employment, medical care, and education, in accordance with national legislation. The decision was taken in light of the extension of temporary protection for persons from Ukraine at the EU level until March 4, 2027.

According to Serbian Economist, Azerbaijan has expressed its readiness to assist Montenegro in connecting to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), said Dino Tutundzic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Montenegro, in an interview with Report.az. According to him, Podgorica considers the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) to be a strategic regional project that should connect Montenegro to TAP and, through it, to the Southern Gas Corridor and Caspian supplies.
Tutundzic said that Montenegro plans to intensify negotiations with neighboring countries – Croatia and Albania – and focus on preparing the infrastructure base, after which it will be possible to talk about gas delivery to end consumers. He also noted Azerbaijan’s interest in participating in Montenegro’s energy projects, including in the renewable energy segment.
The issue of connecting Montenegro to TAP has its own specific features: the country still makes virtually no use of natural gas, as it has no gas market or gas distribution network. This is evident from the report of the Energy Community Secretariat, which explicitly states that “there is no gas market in Montenegro” and “there is no gas network.”
TAP is part of the Southern Gas Corridor, connecting supplies from the Caspian region to European markets via Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea, with access to Italy.

According to Serbian Economist, Iberostar has opened sales for its new Iberostar Selection Montenegro property on the Bar Riviera coast. The promotional offer is tied to the period of stay from May 1 to October 31, 2026, which indicates a launch at the beginning of the summer season.
Iberostar is located on the seafront and has direct access to a private bay/beach; The property is approximately 9 km from the old town of Bar, and the distance to Podgorica and Tivat airports is 45 km and 57 km, respectively. The hotel is located in the coastal area of Ratac, between Bar and Sutomore, and is advertised as “new for 2026.”

Montenegrin authorities issued 679 temporary residence and work permits to Ukrainian citizens in 2025, which is 1.67% of the total number of 40,567 permits, according to the annual report of the Employment Plant of Montenegro (ZZZCG), citing data from the Ministry of Interior.
A total of 40,567 permits were issued to foreigners in Montenegro in 2025 – 2,548 (6.7%) more than in 2024. Of these, 27,689 came under the quota, while 12,878 were issued outside the quota.
Foreign workers came from 107 countries.
