The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure considers it necessary to invest in the construction and repair of runways at regional airports, Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan has said on the air of Channel Five. “A lot of airlines are ready to enter Ukrainian regional airports, but there are no conditions for that. There are no runways, there are no terminals that would accelerate servicing, while this is one of the key issues for low cost air carriers. Therefore we must invest in the runways as a state to get a highly competitive market and business for the state as well,” he said.
According to Omelyan, the development of airports will ensure a quick return on investment. Earlier, the minister said that the reconstruction of the airport in Odesa is to be completed in 2019. It is also planned to additionally allocate UAH 1.17 billion for the construction of a runway at Odesa airport. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the construction of a new runway will allow Odesa airport to accept heavier aircraft, including Boeing-767, which, in turn, can double passenger traffic.
The government of Romania has approved the opening of the Isaccea (Romania)-Orlivka (Ukraine) border crossing point. The respective document signed by Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dancila was published by Deputy Chairman of the Odesa Regional Council Yuriy Dichmohlo. “This is a merit of the joint teamwork of the Infrastructure Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, as well as the Odesa Regional Council and the regional administration,” he said.
According to the document, the Romanian customs office will also be located on the territory of the border crossing point.
As reported, in December 2013, the construction of the Izmail-Tulcea (Romania) and Orlivka-Isaccea (Romania) ferry complexes was included in the concept of the national targeted regional program on the development of the Danube region in Ukraine for 2014-2017.
Ukraine’s Orlivka Ferry Complex LLC and Romania’s MBS-invest with support of English and Cypriot investors plan to launch ferry across the Danube River between Orlivka and Isaccea. Ukraine planned to invest EUR 5 million, and Romania – EUR 20 million. It was planned to create a free economic zone with warehouses and infrastructure apart from the ferry complex.
It is planned that the ferry capacity will be 170,000 passenger cars and trucks a year. The project on the construction of the ferry across the Danube River has been discussed since 1998. The principal agreement on the construction of the ferry between Romania and Ukraine was reached in 2006.
DTEK and China Machinery Engineering Corporation have signed a contract for the construction of a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 200 MW in Nikopol (Dnipropetrovsk region). DTEK Head Maksym Tymchenko told reporters the project cost is estimated at EUR230 million.
The construction of the facility is to be completed by the end of this year. It is planned from March 2019 to start electricity supply to the energy system of Ukraine.
“The 200 MW project is the beginning of the road. We have ambitious plans to build up to 1,000 MW of solar and wind power generation facilities by the end of 2019. The volume of investments for such projects will exceed EUR1 billion,” the DTEK head said.
Tymchenko did not disclose all the details of securing the financing of the project for the construction of a solar power plant, but noted that the company will invest tens of millions of euros in the project, while Chinese company’s investments will be secured by the Export Credit Agency of China.
The head of DTEK also said the company is also interested in CMEC technologies for reconstruction of coal-fired power units at thermal plants and their bringing to compliance with the EU emission standards.
